Meet-and-greet scheduled for tonight in his City Commission Seat #1 bid
Alexander Smith, the Associate Pastor at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Apopka and a local community activist is launching his campaign with a meet-and-greet event tonight from 6-8 pm at Taverna Restaurant (625 Rock Ridge Boulevard in Apopka).
Pastor Alexander Smith
Smith is a graduate of Apopka High School and was a teacher in the Orange County Public School system for over 40 years before his retirement. He is also a member of the South Apopka Ministerial Alliance where he serves as Treasurer and a Member of the African-American Council of Christian Clergy.
"I've lived in Apopka since 1965. I've watched Apopka grow, and I've always wanted to be a part of its growth," he told The Apopka Voice in March. "After educating children for 40 years, I want to continue my service to the community through elected office."
Smith is running for the seat that Commissioner Billie Dean has held since 1994. Dean is currently undecided on a run for his sixth term in Seat#1. Apopka resident Gene Knight has also declared his candidacy for Dean's City Commission seat last month.
