Alert: "Legal" marijuana signs a scam

Apopka Police Warn Against Weed Signs
From the City of Apopka
The Apopka Police Department cautions residents not to respond to signs for “legal” marijuana that are starting to sprout like weeds around this area of northwest Orange County. Police officers are removing fraudulent signs that advertise a phone number to solicit payments for access to marijuana for medical treatment.
The actual intent is to scam innocent victims out of money and credit card numbers. These type of signs may become more common as Florida lawmakers determine this year how to allow for dispensing of medical marijuana – a step approved by state voters last November. Residents should refrain from calling the advertised numbers or seeking easy access to marijuana.
Questions about Florida’s implementation of new medical marijuana laws should be directed to the Florida Department of Health at 850-245-4444.
