A big weekend of Art in Apopka

Downtown Art Walk and Art Alive: Paint the Town Art competition highlights Saturday and Sunday events

Posted

Art events are vibrant and dynamic occasions celebrating creativity and artistic expression. These events serve as platforms for artists to showcase their work, engage with the audience, and foster a sense of community within the art world. From traditional exhibitions to immersive installations, art events encompass a wide range of experiences that captivate and inspire attendees.

And in Apopka this weekend, the arts and community will be on full display, with two events taking place on Saturday and Sunday.

Apopka Murals: Downtown Art Walk Showcasing High-Quality Murals by Renowned Muralists

Downtown Barbers of Apopka, in collaboration with the No Borders Art Competition, is proud to present the Apopka Murals Downtown Art Walk, an exciting project that will transform the downtown area into a vibrant outdoor art gallery. This initiative aims to beautify the city while celebrating the talent of local and international muralists.

The event will take place on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, from 11 am to 6 pm.

Downtown Barbers, a beloved establishment since its inception in 2008, known for their dedication to providing exceptional grooming services, has been a cornerstone of the Apopka community. And No Borders Art Competition, established in 2015 as a platform to showcase the talents of artists from various backgrounds (i.e., graffiti artists, tattoo artists, painters, sketch artists, and muralists), has been interested in this project for many years.

Downtown Apopka is set to undergo a mesmerizing transformation thanks to building owners and the extraordinary talents of a group of high-quality muralists. Wie, Ric, PNER, Kies, Corwin, Tiffany, Mark Baiz, Lemus, Phelo, Alfred119, and Decoy, to name a few, have come together to breathe life into the streets, turning them into an enchanting art walk. With their diverse styles and unique artistic visions, these muralists will fill the cityscape with captivating colors, intricate details, and thought-provoking imagery.

The Apopka Murals Downtown Art Walk will mark the beginning of a new era for public art in Apopka. With the support of talented muralists from both local and international scenes, the city's downtown area will be adorned with over seven life-sized murals, transforming the landscape into a visually captivating experience for residents and visitors alike.

Highlights of the Apopka Murals Downtown Art Walk:

•The unveiling of over seven high-quality, life-sized murals created by renowned muralists.

•A celebration of local talent and the transformative power of public art.

•The opportunity to explore the vibrant downtown area while enjoying the art walk.

•Local vendors offering a variety of goods and services.

•DJ Cubby provides an energetic and captivating soundscape for the event.

This event promises to be a landmark occasion for the Apopka community, bringing together art enthusiasts, residents, and visitors to experience the power of public art. The Apopka Murals Downtown Art Walk is a testament to the commitment of Downtown Barbers and the No Borders Art Competition to create a more beautiful and culturally rich environment for everyone to enjoy.

Downtown Barbers of Apopka is a well-established barbershop that has been serving the Apopka community since 2008. With their commitment to exceptional grooming services and community engagement, they have become a beloved establishment in the area.

No Borders Art Competition is a platform established in 2015 to provide opportunities for artists from various disciplines to showcase their talents. By breaking down artistic barriers, they create a space for artists to connect, collaborate, and inspire one another.

Creative Hub of Apopka hosting Art Alive Paint the Town event on Saturday and Sunday

The Creative Hub of Apopka is hosting its first plein-air event, Art Alive: Paint The Town 2023, on June 3rd and 4th. Show up in the morning or afternoon, rain or shine.

The event will take place at these suggested landmarks: Highland Manor, Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, Magnolia Park, Kit Land Nelson Park, Apopka Amphitheater, Kelly Park - Rock Springs, Wekiwa Springs State Park, Dream Lake, and City Hall. Those who are signed up can set up at one of these locations and recreate their surrounding or interpret the scenery however they’d like and let their imagination run wild.

“…These artists can go around town and paint…” Melanie Jankun, a founder of the Creative Hub of Apopka, said. “…They sit in the open air, and they paint the feelings, the emotions, the scene, the settings of these different places.”

I checked out the murals yesterday and today. Today, I saw the black bear and oranges added to the mural APOPKA, and I really love that one. Such a beautiful bear, I wanted to hug him! Also, I love Indian Chief Osceola, and those big fluffy angel wings. Those are my favorites so far, but I have say yesterday early on, we drove by, and there was a rough looking man out there in front of the Hall's Feed Store sidewalk, drinking a tall beer out of a can right out in the open on the sidewalk, near where the art walk was to be. Don't we have open container laws? Well at least, he wasn't nude like that one previously in that area, walking around.

Walking around on Main Street, I see that another restaurant is going to be coming in where Chuck Wagon was. Anybody know what kind of restaurant, or who is opening it?

What happened to the patriotic scenes that was said that the McLeods wanted? That was what I was expecting down the wall?
