Outstanding article, and all true. Nelson does not want an Economic Development Director because it wasn’t his idea. Inside sources at city hall say he’s posturing Community Development Manager Jim Hitt for that job. That’s a huge mistake. Hitt is one of the main reasons affordable housing was allowed to move into the city center project. Hitt needs to focus on bringing the Land Development Code into line where there’s no confusion for developers. Human Resources interviewed twelve outside candidates, and said all of them were not qualified ? How convenient. This city needs a fresh start with a proven professional leading the effort. Nelson needs to stop reaching into the old grab bag for progress.
