Matt Arnold, the principal of Southwest Middle School, has been named the new principal of Apopka High School. He replaces Doug Guthrie, who was principal at AHS for the past six years. Southwest Middle School has 1,226 students and is located in the Dr. Phillips area of Orlando.

Arnold is a former assistant principal at Evans High School, and was also the athletic director of Winter Park High School. Apopka High School will be his first assignment as a high school principal.

The Orange County Public School Board confirmed his appointment at their meeting tonight according to District 7 Board Member Christine Moore. Moore represents all of Apopka in District 7.

Guthrie is leaving Apopka High School to become principal at a Windermere-area high school that has yet to be named. It will serve as a relief school to the crowded West Orange High School.
