Fatal crash on I-75 kills, seriously injures two Apopka residents

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a one-car crash on Interstate 75 Tuesday afternoon where an Apopka woman was killed and the driver was seriously injured.

FHP troopers said the 61-year-old man, who is also from Apopka, was driving a Nissan Altima north on I-75 in Columbia County when he drove through the center median and southbound lanes before driving onto the west shoulder and hitting a tree for an unknown reason.

According to the crash report, the Altima flipped after its initial impact.

The driver was taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville to be treated for serious injuries. His passenger, 60-year-old Connie Robinson, died at the scene, according to the report.

No other details were immediately available, and the crash remains under investigation.
