Strong voter turnout expected in Apopka

Welcome to Apopka Election Day 2016

It's finally here Apopka. Election Day 2016, the final chapter.

Over 400,000 voters cast ballots in the 2016 election either at early voting sites or by mail, which is over half the registered voters in Orange County. In and around Apopka, over 29,000 of you have voted.

This is the fourth and final Election Day event The Apopka Voice will cover in 2016, and expect no less than comprehensive reporting beginning at sunrise and ending only when the last ballot is counted.

Depending on where you vote, there are 30 contests on the ballot give-or-take. Today we vote for a president, a senator, a congressional representative, a state house and senate member, several judges and amendments, a tax collector, a school board member, a sheriff and an election supervisor to name just a few.

The Apopka Voice will focus on four local races that seem to have caught the imagination of the community the most - the District 7 School Board election between Christine Moore and Matthew Fitzpatrick, The 10th Congressional District election between Val Demings and Thuy Lowe, the Florida House District 31 race between Jennifer Sullivan and Robert Rightmyer and the Orange County Sheriff's race between Jerry Demings and Spike Hopkins.

Rain or shine, it should be an exciting day. Be sure to get out and vote if you haven't already.
