Music, vacations and baseball: It's a Summer Vibe

The VOICE of Inspiration

By Don Lindsey

I mentioned last week how excited I was for summer break to be here, and I am finding that this week is no exception. A couple of nights ago, I was listening to music, winding down for the night as I often do when I heard a song by a band named Walk Off the Earth. The song is called Summer Vibe and has a tropical... almost reggae sound to it. As the first few notes hit, and the band began by using a four-part harmony type of sound that always makes me stop what I’m doing and listen to it, I found myself happy that warmer weather is here and realized I’m ready for some summer fun.

I’m probably not ready for all things summer, and I learned this earlier in the week when I was walking my dogs and thought I was going to melt in what was only 93-degree weather. While overheating doesn’t sound attractive to me, the prospect of what the summer holds outside of that is exciting.

For starters, my daughter is going to camp on Sunday, and my oldest son is in Fort Pierce visiting his grandmother for a couple of weeks leaving just my middle son and my parents here for me to look after. That will be nice because I will be able to get some of the projects done that I need to do around here. It also opens opportunities for the wife and me to go places and have date type of outings that are so scarce when you’re raising children. This coming Friday for instance, we’re going to the water park which is always a blast anytime we can go and with the kids busy it will be nice to have some husband-wife time at one of our favorite places.

Another aspect of the summer that I will enjoy is watching as many baseball games as possible. I was in love with the game when I was a kid, but the steroid debacle of the late 90’s and early 2000’s soured me on the game until recently, and I have realized while watching a lot more of the sport that I have missed it. I don’t get to see many Cincinnati Reds games down here but this year that’s alright as they are having a rough go of it. It’s moments like these when it also pays to be a New York Yankee fan because not only are they doing well but I get to see quite a bit of their games here. I am looking forward to spending some of my weekends and weeknights in front of the T.V. watching and relaxing.

If you go around my house and ask the different members of the family what they are most excited for this summer, you would get different answers. One thing is for sure, however, and that is we are all looking forward to this season, spending time with each other, doing the things that we enjoy and seeking fun where ever we can find it. You might say we are all feeling the Summer Vibe. God Bless and have a wonderful week.
