Grant Invites Apopka Kids to Help Design Dream Playground on Tuesday

From The City of Apopka

Kids from Apopka are invited to a special workshop on Tuesday that will draw on their most creative imaginations to help inspire the next community playground, thanks to a generous new grant from Foresters Financial and the national non-profit KaBOOM!kaboom-tagline

The Design Day meeting from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Fran Carlton Center, 11 N. Forest Ave., will include a fun and imaginative session for children to draw up their ideas for a playground they most wish to see at the City of Apopka park on Lake Avenue. Adults also will work with playground experts and local civic groups to transform those ideas into a one-day, community construction project set for Saturday, April 8.

Tuesday’s schedule :

3 to 4 p.m. - Site walk

4 to 5 p.m. – Children’s design session

5 to 8 p.m. - Adults’ planning meeting

Location :

Fran Carlton Center, 11 N. Forest Ave. in Apopka

The new playground will bring more than 1,200 kids in Apopka one step closer to having a playground they will inspire and enjoy. For years the playground on Lake Avenue has been badly aged largely unused because of minimal maintenance and upkeep. The City of Apopka reached out to KaBOOM! for help.

The playground is the 136th built by Foresters Financial and KaBOOM!. Through this partnership, more children will have the joyful childhood they deserve. Foresters Financial supports KaBOOM! in promoting and protecting a child’s right to active play at home, at school and in the community.foresters

International financial services provider, Foresters Financial, believes in doing more for families and communities. Foresters not only helps families reach their financial goals and protect themselves but also make a lasting difference in their local communities. Since 2006, Foresters has invested more than $11.5 million with KaBOOM! and has brought out hundreds of volunteers to build more than 140 playgrounds across the US and Canada by the end of 2017.

For KaBOOM!, a playground is more than a playground - it’s a brain-expander, friend-maker, and muscle-builder. Play is central to a child’s ability to grow into a productive adult. It can transform children from sedentary, bored and solitary to physically, mentally and socially active.

KaBOOM! works to bring balanced and active play into the daily lives of all kids - particularly those growing up in poverty in America. This is done to create great places to play, inspiring communities to promote and support play and driving the national discussion about the importance of play in fostering healthy and productive lives (#playmatters).
