April is nearly upon us and with it, yet another slew of new TV shows and movies land on Netflix. From classic mobster movies to brand new Netflix Originals, there's something for everyone next month.
As is always the case, the vast majority of content that isn't Netflix Original programming lands on April 1st (no joke) which also happens to be Easter Sunday this year.
Seven, the film that proved definitively that Kevin Spacey is super creepy, remains one of my favorite 90s' crime dramas. I remember seeing the movie in theaters when I was just 14 and it was one of the most horrifying movies I'd ever seen. I think I was a little bit traumatized but I still love that movie. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman make a great duo.
1983 classic, Scarface, also lands on the 1st. If you've never seen Al Pacino stick his face into a pile of cocaine before, now's your chance. The 1987 vampire flick, The Lost Boys, also arrives on the 1st. I haven't seen that movie since high school but I remember enjoying it at the time.
Academy Award winner Life Is Beautiful is definitely worth checking out if you didn't catch that in '97. The Italian World War II movie is by turns hilarious, charming and terribly tragic and actor/director Roberto Benigni is a delight.
Video game fans might recall 1995's halfway decent Mortal Kombat. It's not a great movie by any means but I remember enjoying it at the time. Not as much as actually playing the game, mind you, but it's a video game movie and if you keep your expectations in check you might have some fun with it.
Sin City, The Iron Giant, and Cold Mountain also land on the first, and each is worth a view.
The Iron Giant is one the whole family will enjoy. Other kids programming landing in April includes The Flintstones (1994) and its Vegas-themed sequel, both also on the 1st. Despicable Me 3 lands a bit later on April 5th, and a new Netflix Original Boss Baby show drops the next day. Season 2 of The Magic School Bus Rides Again lands on April 13th.
Also coming to Netflix on the 13th is the first season of Netflix's new Lost In Space series. It's a modern take on the 1965 TV show and consists of 10 episodes. I'm very curious to see if it's any good. I'm also curious to see The New Legends of Monkey: Season 1 which lands on April 27th after having already released a couple months ago elsewhere. It looks cool, flagrant white-washing notwithstanding.
There's plenty more coming to Netflix in April. Check out all the TV shows and movies below:
