Are there dreams in your life yet to be realized?

Or are you dry-rotting?

The other day I stopped by our local Goodwill store and saw something that got my creative juices flowing. There, in the entryway were two vintage, 26-inch Huffy beach bikes, one for the guys, and one for the gals. They might have been purchased as Christmas gifts due to their colors. The gal’s bike was a bright green, and the man’s was fire engine red.

Each bike was all decked out with identical accessories: A chrome plated luggage rack over the rear wheel, a cup holder on the right side of the wide handlebars, a small basket over the front tire, and one of those old, big butt bicycle seats. (I don’t think that is what they really called them.) I must admit to some nostalgia as I stood there wondering if the folks that purchased them ever used them, and enjoyed them as I am sure was their intent. My imaginer went a tad berserk as in the somewhat myopic vision of my mind’s eye I saw a young couple laughing as they rode them on Daytona beach, or cruising down their neighborhood street in what was a safer time for bicycles due to fewer cars on the road.

Then as I looked closer I noticed dry-rot on the tires which indicated that the bikes had been stored in a garage. Did the young couple get too busy to enjoy the bikes? Why were the bikes no longer used? Perhaps the arrival of children forced them to discard their dreams, or maybe they each got caught up in the workaday world planning to eventually resume their dreams, and the opportune time just never presented itself.

Sad, so sad.

And then I was forced to ask myself, “Are there dreams yet to be realized in my life? And if so, what am I doing to make them a reality?” I can attest to the fact that Time is a tough horse to ride folks. It can buck you off and stomp on you, even bite you on the behind, but you need to climb back into the saddle and ride baby, ride! so please, live, laugh, love like there is no tomorrow! Papa God did not create us to to dry-rot like those old huffy bicycle tires! Flex your muscles, live life to the fullest, smile and laugh a lot. Believe me, there is still joy to be realized, adventures to be experienced, and joy unimaginable just around the next corner.

Live wholly,

Love fully,

Love God, and make a difference, today
