From the Florida Department of Health-Orange County

The Florida Department of Health in Orange County (DOH-Orange) honored several deserving individuals from the community for their contributions and dedication to public health.

This year’s Dr. Alfred L. Bookhardt, M.D. Award recipient is Dr. Francoeur Cadet. Currently, Dr. Cadet is attending the infectious disease fellowship program at Orlando Health, where he was one of two that was selected for the program. From 2008-2018, Dr. Cadet worked at the Orange Blossom Family Health in Orlando, as Chief Medical Officer, where he provided quality healthcare to patients while managing and supervising physicians and mid-level practitioners. Dr. Cadet earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary in Natural Science and a Master of Public Health at the University of South Florida. He earned a Doctor of Osteopathic at Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Upon receiving the award. Dr. Cadet stated, “I strongly believe that we are all created for a purpose, which is to serve God and each other.” Dr. Cadet believes that he has been blessed with public health, medical, and language skills to reach out to as many people as possible.

The annual Bookhardt award for Health Equity was created by the DOH-Orange as a way of recognizing an Orange County physician for their commitment to increasing access to health care with a goal of achieving health equity in Central Florida. Dr. Alfred L. Bookhardt (1928-2014) began practicing in Orlando during the Civil Rights Movement. He treated African-American patients who were refused care by white physicians. He also co-founded the Central Florida Medical Society and Guardian Care, the first long-term care facility for African-Americans in Orlando.

Also at the ceremony, DOH-Orange recognized individuals for their effects in the community to serve and help reduce health disparities. Congratulations to the following winners:
