Apopka police officers complete nationally recognized supervisory training

Posted

From the Apopka Police Department

Sergeants Daniel Colley, Bryan Hall, and Brett Webster graduated from the University of Louisville’s Command Officer’s Development Course (CODC), today in Clermont.

The CODC is a nationally recognized course of study for middle police managers to prepare them for senior leadership. As part of Chief Michael McKinley’s succession planning approach, department supervisors are being identified for more intensive supervisory training to allow them to step into progressively more engaging roles within the agency.

“It is important we train the next level of leaders with the department,” said McKinley. “Running a 21st-century policing agency is complex and requires a unique set of skills.”

The CODC is an intensive 400-hour course of instruction covering diverse topics from budgeting, to understanding intergovernmental relationships, to developing risk management strategies. The Apopka supervisors have decades of experience among them and currently hold commanding positions within the department. Sergeant Webster is in charge of the department’s training and professional development, Sergeant Hall commands the department’s strategic investigations unit, including the canine teams, and Sergeant Colley manages a patrol squad. The team of sergeants graduated from the 80th class offered by the University of Louisville with 45 other law enforcement professionals from four southeastern states.

The Apopka Police Department is a full-service, accredited police agency with more than 150 employees including 108 sworn officers and staff. The Apopka Police Department supports the Crimeline program to aid in investigations and to foster safe and anonymous tips that lead to criminal arrests.
