Visioning Process Continues: Community Consensus Meeting Next Week

Posted

Suzanne Kidd gave a brief recap of the Apopka Visioning Process at last night's City Council meeting.

The visioning process began in July of last year. It started with an online survey of nearly 1200 residents.

The survey was followed by three Mobile Information Station events at various Apopka locations; four Neighborhood Community Forums; one Business Forum and two Minority Community Forums.

The visioning facilitators then culled through the mountains of information provided by Apopka residents, boiling it down to a synthesis of the concerns and wishes for Apopka's progress. The City Council and City Staff weighed in during this synthesis process.

What has now emerged is a strategic plan based around five broad themes:

  • Economic Development
  • Educational Opportunities
  • Infrastructure & Growth
  • Improving City Services
  • Quality-of-Life Issues

What follows now is the very important Community Consensus Meeting at Highland Manor on Tuesday, February 23, starting at 6:00 pm. The City Council will be present for this meeting.

This is the final opportunity for everyone to weigh in on what Apopka's path will be over the next 10 years.

The last step will be City Council approval (if they choose) at the March 16th City Council meeting.
