Even in remission, Debbie Turner continues to fight cancer

Posted

unnamed-85Debbie Turner is a fighter. She battled Brain Cancer until it was diagnosed as in remission. And it was during that fight that Turner had some realizations about cancer care. She was surprised that there was not more help from organizations in regard to support, resources and information.

Turner decided to right that wrong for future cancer victims and their families.

She set out to make education and support available for those with families that go through this horrific disease. She began by finding a place in Apopka for those families in need, due to cancer and to cancer-related difficulties. She was able to obtain use of an existing building at the newly refurbished Apopka High School and through the American Cancer Society opened up the first Cancer Resource Center in Apopka.

She calls it The Debbie Turner's Cancer Care and Resource Center.

The Center offers support for the victims of cancer through services such as full makeovers, education, transportation and counseling along with a full range of education and support for the caregivers and other family members.

Turner will be a guest on Jim Turner’s “My Hometown” at 4pm today promoting The Debbie Turner Cancer Care Center Care-A-Thon, an exclusive partnership of 1520 WBZW and the Center is taking place Tuesday thru Friday with special on-the-scene broadcasts on 1520 WBZW.
