Dale Fenwick, the publisher of The Apopka Voice, has sold the online news site to its managing editor Reggie Connell.

The sale comes after a noteworthy 18-month beginning in which The Apopka Voice was named the Most Innovative Business in Apopka at the 2017 Awards Gala sponsored by the Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce. It also received its 5,000th “like” recently on Facebook, and has averaged 32,000 unique visitors the past 12 months.

In 2015, Fenwick realized someone should give the community a balancing voice when it comes to Apopka news, information and community events, and it should be done in an innovative format. So in December of 2015, he launched the site, which has become the premier platform for up to the minute news in the Apopka area. The Apopka Voice is a new approach to collecting news and information, to original reporting, innovative storytelling, provocative commentary, and distribution that embrace the possibilities of technology and expand audiences and deepen relationships with its readers.

“When we launched The Apopka Voice in 2015 the goal was to provide Apopkans with a reliable source of news about Apopka in a format that was easy to access,” Fenwick said. “In the digital world that we live in that meant being online, since that is where more and more people are turning to get their news. The Apopka Voice website now averages more than 30,000 unique visitors each month. This statistic has validated the need that I identified more than two years ago. It is never easy to let go, but the time has come for me to focus my energy on other projects. I know I am leaving The Apopka Voice in more-than-capable hands.”

Connell plans to keep The Apopka Voice moving forward with its news-driven style.

"It's an honor and a privilege to keep Dale's vision for a news site in Apopka going strong," said Connell. "I have grown fond of the people in this community, and I look forward to maintaining the level of quality and readership The Apopka Voice has attained. We are an important source of news for this growing city."

Connell will take over as publisher on July 1st. He will also remain as managing editor.
