iHope Camp will inspire kids to learn and care about the world around them
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida has opened registration for a new summer camp that will inspire elementary students to make a positive impact in the world. Families may register for up to three weeklong sessions, which include:
o Discover exciting ways to help the world through nonprofit work
o Experience projects at Second Harvest and other organizations that create change
o Field trips: Long and Scott Farm, Adult Literacy League and movies
July 15-19: iConserve: How I can protect the world
o Explore ways to reduce, reuse and recycle in your community
o Create projects that transform recycled items into useful ones
o Field trips: Showcase of Citrus, Waste Management
July 22-26: iCreate: How I can improve the world
o Learn how businesses create change
o Explore small ways to make a big difference
o Field trips: Darden, Crayola Experience, Do Good Farm, bowling
“Families want to teach their kids about kindness and giving back, and we’re happy to give them an option for doing that,” said Greg Higgerson, vice president of development for Second Harvest. “iHope Camp will harness kids’ natural curiosity and creativity to inspire tomorrow’s great neighbors and world-changers.”
iHope Camp is open to children entering kindergarten through 5th grade. It will run from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at Second Harvest’s headquarters at 411 Mercy Drive in Orlando. Camp costs $275 per week, including meals and snacks. Discounts are available for nonprofit employees.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a member of Feeding America – the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. SHFBCF secures and distributes food and grocery products to approximately 550 local nonprofit feeding programs throughout Central Florida. Last year, with the help of food and financial donors, volunteers and a caring, committed community, the food bank distributed nearly 58 million meals to partner programs such as food pantries, soup kitchens, women’s shelters, senior centers, day care centers, and Kids Cafes. In addition, Second Harvest’s 16-week culinary program teaches foodservice-based technical, life and employability skills to economically hard-pressed adults.
