The Apopka City Center unveiled the next piece of its plan - a Winn Dixie Supermarket on Main Street.

In celebration of the new Apopka City Center Winn-Dixie opening early next year, Southeastern Grocers, the parent company and home of Winn-Dixie grocery stores hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at its future store location - 611 East Main Street on Thursday.

It is the second City Center groundbreaking event held in 2022. In February, Brew Theory and Starbucks put shovel-to-ground to announce their arrival in Apopka.

"The Apopka Area Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to the City Center and Winn Dixie build-outs," said Chamber President Cate Manley. "Logistically speaking, it will be a much-wanted convenience to those of us who work and live in this central area."

Winn-Dixie has served the Apopka community for more than 36 years at its current store, located at the Errol Plaza Shopping Center, and believes now is the perfect time to expand its offerings and services to the growing community. The new Apopka City Center store will be designed with a specialized approach to providing customers with a unique shopping experience featuring the freshest produce and highest-quality meats and seafood as well as new signature categories with a wide product selection and specialty items in each department. The store will also feature a new liquor store for customers to find the perfect selection of beer, wine, and spirits. The new store will create more than 100 jobs for the Apopka community.

"Everything is coming together," said Apopka Mayor Bryan Nelson. "The dream that we had about this Town Center... this is going to be the bookend of our Town Center. Now, we're starting to see ground broken and buildings going up. As the vision starts to complete itself, we are just so excited for what the Town Center will be in 3-5 years."
