From the Orange County Sheriff's Office
UPDATED at NOON: The LOCKDOWN has been lifted," said OCSO Master Deputy Tejada-Monforte in an email statement. "Deputies investigated and have cleared the school. NO weapon was found. School administrators have taken over the school and would be operating within their normal schedule. As always, safety is our top priority. We thank everyone for their patience during the lockdown."
Earlier, Wekiva High School was placed on lockdown Thursday morning due to a report of a student with a weapon on campus. Parents were informed by the school that the student was identified and all students and staff are safe.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office said a school resource officer on campus responded to a report of a possible student with a firearm just before 7:30 a.m. Deputies said the student was located and no firearm was found.
Wekiva principal Michelle Erickson released this statement to the parents of Wekiva students by a recorded phone message:
"Wekiva High School parents, this is principal Michelle Erickson, calling to inform you that our school has been placed on a LOCKDOWN due to a report of a student with a possible weapon on campus.
