The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision in Volusia County Tuesday morning involving two Apopka residents.

According to the FHP report, a 2005 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 27-year-old woman from Apopka, was traveling eastbound on New York Avenue (SR-44) towards New Smyrna Beach and near the intersection of Deland Crossings Boulevard. A second vehicle, (a 2018 Dodge Van) driven by a 58-year-old Daytona Beach man, was traveling westbound on New York Avenue, while a third vehicle, (2007 Nissan Versa) driven by a 30-year-old New Smyrna Beach man, was also traveling westbound behind the van.

For an unknown reason, the Toyota traveled into the westbound lanes and struck the van head-on. The Nissan then struck the side of the van.

The driver of the Toyota and a passenger, a 20-year-old female resident of Apopka, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the van sustained minor injuries according to the report.

The crash remains under investigation. The FHP did not release the names of the deceased Apopka residents, or the other two drivers.
