Updating Breaking News: Apopka resident injured in hit-and-run incident

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a hit-and-run incident this morning on State Road 528 in Orange County that resulted in an Apopka resident crashing his vehicle.

According to the report, at approximately 7:27 am an unknown white box truck with logos on the side and a Kenworth Tractor-Trailer Semi driven by a 33-year-old Apopka man was traveling eastbound on SR-528 approaching Innovation Way in the outside lane.

The semi-driver told FHP that the white box truck was tailgating him. When the driver changed to the inside lane to allow the box truck to pass, it passed and changed lanes directly in front of him, which caused the semi-driver to overcorrect while braking and traveled off the roadway to the left, struck the guardrail, overturned, and landed on its side.

No contact was made between the two vehicles, according to the report.

The white box truck driver fled the scene eastbound on SR-528.

The semi-driver told the FHP that the fleeing driver was a Hispanic male wearing a black shirt and has a neck tattoo. A witness to the incident verified that the box truck was tailgating and changed lanes causing the semi to travel off the roadway.

The Apopka man (semi-driver) was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, according to the report.

Anyone with information about the box truck driver can contact the FHP at 407/737-2213 or contact Crimeline.

This crash remains under investigation by the FHP.

This is an update of a breaking news story and will be updated again as more details are known.
