The stingers in life can sure make you think...

Posted

Have you ever had a wasp get into your house? Sure you have, because that is what wasps do!

And what do they do when they invade your space? They lay claim to it with no remorse. What do most of us do in response? Run away from the miniscule, miserable little monster!

The wasp, being a wasp, buzzes around getting into places the wasp shouldn’t go and threatens to sting you.

There I was, minding my own business, taking a shower. I wasn’t bothering anybody, just merrily basking in the hot water, when I felt something crawling on my leg. I looked down and was somewhat surprised to see a cute little wasp crawling up my leg.

Have you been been stung by a wasp?

Felt good, didn’t it?

In the above case, I suppose you could say that it was a case of aggravated assault, because at that exact moment my thought processes were slower than my reaction, and I swatted the wasp. And do you know what the mean little bugger did? Inexplicably, it stung me!

I suppose when you consider this particular case, the “inexplicable” part might not be reasonable, but... there it was.

Wouldn't you know it, though, that wasn't the end of the siege. When I smote the wasp after it stung me, it fell to the floor and then began walking back toward my foot for a repeat performance! I swear I heard him mumbling little waspish obscenities, and threatening great mayhem to my person under his breath.

Now, because I am a nice guy and don’t want to harm any of God’s creatures, I grabbed a washcloth to protect my hand from further damage, picked up said wasp, carried him to the side door, and tossed the wasp-washcloth combination outside.

And do you know what that little beastly, blasted bug did? It flew back past me into the house again!

It was very obvious that the wasp assumed that it was entitled to live in my house, and it was also obvious that we were of very differing opinions.

Father, thank you for this grand country of ours and everything good that it stands for.  Give us wisdom and discernment to recognize danger when we see it, and to avoid that which might cause harm or threaten injury to what is yours - big and small alike. Oh Papa God, whether animal or human, principle or promise, we want the light you've given  us - to love and live as one - to always be willing to fight for another day, another chance, to live and breathe it, just as you taught us to do. In Jesus’ wonderful name we ask it, Amen
