Posted

If you are going to be starting your gym journey, then the first thing that we want to say is that we are proud of you. Despite what some people think, it’s not always easy to work out in front of other people, especially ones who seem like they constantly know what they are doing and have it all together. We want to remind you that everyone has their own fitness goals, and that everyone once started in the same place, being new. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the things that you should know when it comes to starting your fitness journey, so keep reading if you would like to find out more.

It’s always scary at first

The first thing to know is that it’s always scary at first. The first step is always going to be the most difficult, and the second that you walk into the gym you have taken that step. Everyone was apprehensive and worried the first time that they went into the gym because there are other people there, but you will soon realize that this doesn’t matter. Most people in the gym are pretty friendly and willing to help you out if you need it, as long as you are polite and respectful. Some people have even met some of their best friends at the gym, so you never know what can happen.

If you’re not sure, ask

If you are not sure about something, ask. You can either ask a member of staff as they are there to help you, or you can ask someone near you if you need something like a spot. When you’re starting out it’s a good idea to go through the different equipment, learn how to use it and get a feel for everything. You also want to get a feel for the different types of gym weights just to ensure that you feel secure in your knowledge of everything. Again though, you can always ask if there is something that you have forgotten or something that you do not know.

The staff are always going to be there for you when you need them, so just let them know that you need some help or that you are struggling with something and they will have your back. If they don’t, then end your membership and go to a different gym.

Nobody is judging you

One of the things that people are worried about most when they start the gym is that people are judging. We promise that people are not judging you. You are all there for the same reason, and you don’t know where any of those other people around you started, how far along they are in their fitness journey or whatever else. It’s easy to assume that all of the gym fit people have always been this way, but by and large this is not the case.

You don’t need to worry about anyone else and what they are doing, because they won't be with you. Unless you ask for their help or they notice you struggling, most people will be focusing on themselves.

Getting into a routine is the hardest part

The final thing to know is that you should be getting into a routine with your gym going, and this can be one of the most difficult parts. If you are not used to making room in your schedule for the gym, it might feel like a monumental task to do when you first get started. But, you have got to push through this, and find times that work for you. Set yourself up a little schedule on your calendar of when you’re going to be doing, and make sure that you adjust this if something comes up and you are unable to attend on one of your regular days. Sometimes life happens, but this doesn’t mean that you should give up or let go of your newfound dedication to fitness.

Once you get into a routine, you will find that you don’t quite feel yourself without it..

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you need to know if you are starting your gym journey. It’s one that you are going to thank yourself for, because who knows, you might fall in love with exercise and make strides towards your fitness goals. You can do this, don’t let anything put you off.
