Spring is in the air: 60th Annual Apopka Art & Foliage Festival rings in the new season

Posted

In 2022, the official beginning of the seasons, according to almanac.com, are as follows:

  • Summer - June 21st
  • Fall - September 22nd
  • Winter - December 21st

As for spring in Apopka? There is no need for a specific date. The season of flora, fauna, and renewal simply begins when the Apopka Art and Foliage Festival begins.

The Apopka Women's Club, in partnership with The City of Apopka, held its annual event last weekend. The free, family-friendly festival featured award-winning artists, crafters, and plant specialists who showcased an array of locally grown foliage. Guests at the festival enjoyed live music, and entertainment from a variety of performers. Home Depot presented a Kids Zone.

Before an estimated crowd of over 5,000, the festival celebrated its 60th year, and although the proceeds from the event are yet to be determined, they are already earmarked for approximately 20 charities in the community, including Loaves and Fishes, Shop with a Cop, and Meals on Wheels. Scholarships are also awarded to qualified local students and one adult.

"We were more than pleased with the attendance and shoppers," said Women's Club President Charlotte White. "Sometimes you have one but not the other. This year, we had both."

White, says previous festivals have raised between $10,000-$14,000.

And yes, there was food!

Among the tasty cuisine at this year's festival were vendors from the following establishments:

  • Tijuana Flats
  • The King's Nuts
  • Outback Snack Shack
  • Old Fashioned Ice Cream
  • Linda’s Hot Dogs and More
  • Little Joe's
  • Pépère Joe's Chowder Wagon
  • Central FL Kettle Corn
  • Grillmasters BBQ
