Police Report: 16-year-old Shooter was 15-year-old Victim's Boyfriend

The 16-year-old boyfriend of a 15-year-old girl killed Saturday was the shooter in the incident at the Sheeler Hills subdivision, according to reports from the Apopka Police Department (APD), and the Joint Homocide Investigation Team (JHIT).

On Saturday at around 12:45 p.m. the APD responded to calls in reference to shots being fired at a residence on the 1000 block of Sheeler Hills Drive. Upon APD's arrival, they determined that a 16-year-old male had shot a 15-year-old girl based on statements provided by the defendant at the scene. He was later detained and transported to the APD by the IMG_597111uniformed patrol division according to APD reports.

In an interview with JHIT, the 16-year-old male stated he was the boyfriend of the victim and they had been dating for approximately 5 years. He stated he was at the residence on the previous day, and spent the night at the residence. The defendant said he knew the gun was fully functional because they had been shooting it that day in the backyard. He said he was lying next to the victim after retrieving the gun from another room, and while under the impression that the gun was unloaded, began pulling the trigger of the firearm while pointing it at her. He said that she told him not to, but he pulled the trigger two times and heard it click two times. On the third trigger pull, the gun shot a live round, hitting the victim. Immediately after the shot was fired, he left the room and placed the gun in the kitchen and returned to the room where the victim was shot. He said she lost consciousness and 9-1-1 was called.

The 16-year-old male was charged with 2nd Degree Murder for pointing a fully functional handgun at the victim, pulling the trigger and killing her.
