Monkeypox vaccinations reach 3,200 in Orange County

The Florida Department of Health in Orange County (DOH-Orange) continues to provide Monkeypox Vaccinations to contain the spread of the Monkeypox virus.

Through the DOH-Orange website, there are plenty of vaccination appointments available. The appointment system opens up at 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, but not on holidays.

Visit the DOH-Orange website for eligibility and appointment registration at: https://orange.floridahealth.gov/index.html. Vaccinations are by appointment only, no walk-ins.

Since the last week of June 2022, DOH-Orange has provided 3,254 Monkeypox vaccinations through its appointment system and community outreach events.

In August 2022, DOH-Orange averaged around 100 appointments per day, Monday through Friday.

Starting August 26, 2022, DOH-Orange provided greater access to the FREE vaccine by:

  • expanding from 100 appointments per day to 200 appointments per day, Monday through Friday
  • increasing the number of locations for Monkeypox Appointments from one (1) location to six (6) locations (Central, Eastside, Lila Mitchell, Lake Underhill, Ocoee, Southside)

On August 13, 2022, the first outreach vaccination event was held with a community partner. Since then, DOH-Orange has held a total of 12 outreach vaccination events.

  • Total Number of Monkeypox Vaccines provided by DOH-Orange since June 2022: 3,254 (includes both appointments and community outreach events)
  • Monkeypox Vaccines provided by DOH-Orange last week (August 21-27, 2022): 924
  • DOH-Orange Monkeypox Vaccine Appointments Scheduled for August 29 through September 3, 2022: 1,472
  • Total Number of DOH-Orange Community Outreach Vaccination events held since June 2022: 12

Background

Anyone can get monkeypox, but men who have sex with men remain at the highest risk. Transmission of monkeypox generally requires prolonged, face-to-face contact, direct contact with an active rash, or indirect contact with an active rash through contaminated items, such as contaminated clothing.

If you are currently experiencing symptoms of Monkeypox, we encourage you to contact your healthcare provider.

Symptoms of Monkeypox include:

Fever, headache, muscle aches and backache, swollen lymph nodes, chills, a rash that can look like pimples or blisters that appear on the face, inside the mouth, and on other parts of the body like the hands, feet, chest, genital and anal area.
