Central Florida Boy Scout Council honors Apopka's Tom and Selina Terry

Posted

On Saturday, March 26th, the Central Florida Boy Scout Council will honor Apopka residents Tom and Selina Terry for their philanthropic efforts in the community through their family foundation Forever Wishes.

Terry is Channel 9's Chief Meteorologist. He grew in prominence during his television coverage and forecasting of Hurricane Charley's path through Orlando in 2004. Terry recognized and forecasted the storm's track three hours before the National Hurricane Center.

Forever Wishes is a non-profit organization formed by the Terrys to help assist Toys for Tots in Orange County.  Its mission is to help reduce the number of children in Central Florida that would not have gifts to open during the holiday season.  To date, they have raised over $175,000 to help support the Orlando Toys for Tots program and deliver truckloads of toys directly to their warehouse.

The Golden Eagle Event brings together Apopka's leaders each year to honor outstanding members of the community. Guests are invited to enjoy a fun-filled and entertaining presentation and the feeling that comes with philanthropic compassion. There is no cost to attend the event however an ASK will be made of all attendees. All proceeds benefit the Central Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Last year's honoree was Jerry Mullinax, owner of Mullinax Ford.

The Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s leading outdoor education and character development program. Its mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The vision of the Central Florida Council is to provide unparalleled experiences for more youth.

Money received at this event helps make that possible.

The event is at The Whistle Stop at Zellwood Station - 2728 Cayman Circle in Zellwood. The reception starts at 6 pm. Dinner begins at 7 pm.
