Matthew Arnold, Principal of Apopka HIgh School, sent this message to AHS parents:

" A truck caught on fire on the emergency access alley way behind the school. We evacuated the school immediately and the fire department arrived quickly to put out the fire. We have been able to get all students to lunch and school will continue as usual."

A vehicle owned by a private contractor doing pressure washing for Apopka High School caught fire on the access road (back side) of AHS school property, according to Sgt. Kim Walsh, spokesperson for the Apopka Police Department. The fire was contained, and there was a partial evacuation of school building near the vehicle, but there were no injuries to AHS staff or students. The contractor suffered minor injuries as a result of the fire. Both APD, the Apopka Fire Department and EMS responded to the call.

This is a breaking story. The Apopka Voice will update as more details are known.
