Demetri Burch verbally commits to The University of South Florida. Demetri Burch

Apopka Blue Darter Quarterback Demetri Burch won’t have to travel too far to continue his football career after high school. Burch, the Senior signal caller who led the Blue Darters to a state championship in 2014 as a sophomore, verbally committed to play football with the University of South Florida in 2017.

"The reason why I picked USF is because of the coaching staff," he said. "Just talking to the coaching staff, I knew it was all about family and I know they care about their players. With all of the visits I've taken, the longest I've ever talked to a head coach was about 5-10 minutes. With USF, I spoke to their head coach (Willie Taggert) for about an hour, and that let me know that this was the school for me.”

Burch chose USF over larger schools like the Universities of Kentucky, West Virginia, Louisville and Syracuse.

Burch rushed for 1,117 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2015 as a junior. He will switch to wide receiver at USF.

In his most recent game, Burch led the Blue Darters to a 35-14 win over the Osceola Kowboys last May to close out the spring season. Burch accounted for 271 all-purpose yards and three TDs. He ran 16 times for 156 yards and a score and was 5-of-9 passing for 115 yards and two more TDs.
