Bags that give back: Candy’s Cats selected to benefit in the Winn-Dixie Community Bag Program

Posted

The Winn-Dixie Community Bag Program is an easy way for shoppers to give back to the local community and the environment as part of the regular shopping routine. First, it reduces single-use plastic in the environment while giving back to those in need in the local community, all while simply running routine weekly errands.

Winn Dixie estimates that one purchased reusable bag will be used at least six times per year. It also estimates that each time a reusable bag is used it equates to five single-use bags that are not used. This means that for every reusable bag that is sold, 30 single-use bags are not used.

It also helps out Candy’s Cats.

The Apopka-based non-profit has been selected as the benefiting non-profit in the Community Bag Program for the month of May. Every $2.99 reusable Community Bag sends a $1 donation to a non-profit local to the Winn-Dixie in which it was purchased.

As part of this ongoing program, every month at every Winn-Dixie location a different local non-profit is selected to benefit from the sale of the reusable Community Bag. Candy’s Cats was selected as the May beneficiary for the Winn-Dixie store located at 1565 US 441 North, in Apopka. Candy’s Cats will receive a $1 donation for every $2.99 reusable Community Bag purchased at this location in May.

“The Community Bag Program is an easy way to help reduce single-use plastic in the environment while making a huge impact by supporting non-profits, like us, at the local level,” said Amber Blevins, Marketing Director of Candy’s Cats. “We hope you’ll support us in May by purchasing one – or two! – Community Bags at our local Winn-Dixie!”

Candy’s Cats is a non-profit based in Apopka. Founded in 2005, Candy’s Cats works to rescue "throw-away" cats while making a determined effort within the Greater Orlando area to educate residents about caring for cats of all ages. Learn more about Candy’s Cats by visiting www.candyscats.org
