From the Apopka Police Department
Maintaining a large police force in a growing city is crucial for ensuring public safety and fostering community trust. As populations increase, so do the challenges, leading to higher demands for law enforcement to address issues ranging from crime prevention to traffic management.
A robust police presence can deter criminal activities, respond promptly to emergencies, and effectively engage with the community. Investing in a strong police force promotes a sense of security, enabling residents to thrive in their vibrant, bustling environment.
And in the growing city of Apopka, its police force just got a little bigger.
The Apopka Police Department added two new officers at a Wednesday swearing-in ceremony at City Hall. These new officers took an oath to serve and protect while being sworn in at City Hall by Apopka Police Chief Michael McKinley.
"We congratulate our newest Apopka Police Officers, Katherine Almazan and Samantha Moraes, and wish them success and safety throughout their new law enforcement career," the APD posted on its Facebook page. "As a tradition, all new officers select family members to pin police badges to their uniforms."
Almazan was born and raised in Miami. She graduated from Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School in 2018. Almazan attended the police academy at Seminole State College earlier this year. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Florida Atlantic University. Almazan’s hobbies include CrossFit and cooking.
Moraes was born in Washington, DC, and raised in Brazil. She graduated high school in Brazil. Moraes attended the police academy at Seminole State College. Her hobbies include travel, spending quality time with her kids, and hanging out with friends and family.
The Apopka City Council - Mayor Bryan Nelson, Vice Mayor Diane Velazquez, and Commissioners Nadia Anderson, Nick Nesta, and Alexander Smith were among the attendees.
Welcome to Apopka, Officers Almazan and Moraes, and thank you for your service!
