Apopka Police Department swears in three new officers

Posted

The Apopka Police Department added three new officers at a Tuesday swearing-in ceremony at City Hall. These new officers took an oath to serve and protect while being sworn in at City Hall by Apopka Police Chief Michael McKinley.

"We are honored to welcome this diverse group of officers to the Apopka Police Department," said McKinley. "Each individual brings a unique background and perspective that will enhance our agency’s ability to serve and connect with our community. We are excited to support them as they begin what we hope will be long and successful careers here in Apopka."

Currently, 127 sworn police officers are on board at the APD. This number includes officers in the police academy.

Officer Nahamie Edouard was born in Orlando and grew up in both the Orlando and Apopka areas. She attended Apopka High School for three years before transferring to Evans High School, graduating in 2017.

Edouard’s hobbies include exploring new foods and restaurants and spending time with friends. She began her career in law enforcement at Orange County Corrections, where she served as a corrections officer for two years.

Edouard chose a career in law enforcement to contribute to creating and maintaining a safe and thriving community in Apopka.

Officer Joel Sanabria is originally from New Jersey and has been happily married to his wife, Jennifer, for seven years. Together, they have two children: 6-year-old Madison and 2-year-old Caleb.

Sanabria is a U.S. Army veteran and served with distinction during two deployments to Afghanistan as a member of the 10th Mountain Division.

In 2017, Sanabria and his family relocated to Apopka, where Jennifer worked as an ER nurse. Before joining the APD, Sanabria worked as a Seminole County Sheriff’s Office dispatcher. This experience inspired him to pursue a career as a law enforcement officer to make an even greater impact in his community.

Officer Zakai Patterson was born in Lakenheath, England, and raised in Apopka. He graduated from Wekiva High School in 2022.

Patterson’s hobbies include digital art and graphic design, building plastic model kits, cars, and video games. He chose a career in law enforcement to strengthen the bond within the community and serve as an inspiration to the youth.

Congratulations to Officers Edouard, Sanabria, and Patterson. Thanks for your service to the community, and welcome to Apopka.
