Apopka Police and Firefighters Win Orlando Magic Basketball Tournament

Apopka police officers and firefighters topped several other teams including a heavily favored four-time champion to win

The Harris Foundation also awarded Apopka with $5,000 to be donated to a local charity.

Sunday’s 2016 Orlando Magic Guns & Hoses basketball tournament at the Amway Center.

Apopka defeated the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Enforcers in overtime of the final game by a score of 42-36. The Apopka players were recognized during Sunday night’s NBA game between the Orlando Magic and the Memphis Grizzlies – a ceremony also attended by the Apopka police and fire honor guard.

The Harris Foundation also awarded Apopka with $5,000 to be donated to a local charity. Other teams in the basketball tournament included the Orange County Fire Department, Coleman Federal Correctional Center, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Corrections and the Kissimmee Police Department.

The Apopka team included: firefighters Earl Hines and Justin Joseph as well Josue Velez and police officers Rafael Baez, Jimmy Fillmon, Steve Landry, Metro SWAT Member Julio Ramos, Josean Velez, and Bryan Voiselle. The Apopka Honor Guard are: Steve Harmon, Cliff MacDonald, Jim Maloney and Josean Velez.
