Congratulations, Susan Bone.
Apopka Mayor Bryan Nelson and the City Council honored Bone and her staff's efforts in the clerk's office with a proclamation during Professional Municipal Clerks Week, a national observance recognizing city clerks' essential role in local government operations.
City Clerk Susan Bone, Deputy Clerk Jodi Wrigley, and Administrative Specialist Carolina Baez accepted the proclamation at the City Council's May 7th meeting, acknowledging their commitment and service to the City of Apopka.
“Dear commissioners, thank you for this honor,” said Bone. “I just want to say thank you to my staff. We’ve got a team of three, and we’ve got a lot of things going on in our office. There are a lot of people who don’t understand what the clerk's office even does, but we do appreciate the honor and the recognition. Thank you.”
The proclamation celebrated the long-standing role of municipal clerks in the public sector, referring to the position as a “time-honored and vital part of local government” and “the oldest among public servants.” It emphasized that clerks are a crucial “link between the citizens, the local governing bodies, and agencies of government at other levels.”
The proclamation praises the integrity of municipal clerks, stating:
“Professional municipal clerks pledge to be mindful of neutrality and impartiality, rendering service to all. They serve as the information center on local government and community functions.”
The city also recognized the professional development efforts taken on by clerks throughout their careers, noting their commitment to improvement through “participation in educational programs, seminars, workshops, and the annual meetings of their state, county, and international professional organizations.”
In addition to their day-to-day responsibilities, municipal clerks continually pursue professional development, often attending specialized trainings, workshops, and conferences to stay updated on evolving laws and best practices.
Nelson concluded the proclamation by officially declaring May 4th-10th as Professional Municipal Clerks Week in the City of Apopka, expressing the city’s appreciation for the clerk's office's work and dedication.
