Animal Camp comes to Apopka!

Catherine Gergley brings her successful Winter Park Nature Camp concept to town

Posted

Catherine Gergley is a mother, an educator, and a lover of all things nature. She grew up locally in Winter Park and has always been great with kids and animals. Twenty-six years ago, she founded The Winter Park Nature Camp at Mead Gardens, combining both of her passions. Throughout its history, Nature Camp has allowed Gergley to bring thousands of kids from all over Central Florida up close and personal with animals of all kinds.

In 2022, following years of parents begging for Gergley to expand Nature Camp due to incredibly high demand, she is celebrating her first year of Apopka Animal Camp. Nature Camp in Winter Park has been booked for months, but now, Apopka is home to a new branch of this beloved program!

Gergley's passion and energy for this program are evident in the excitement she exudes as she shares the details she has planned for Apopka Animal Camp's inaugural year.

"My passion really is just sharing animals and nature with kids," Gergley said. "And I get to do that every summer!"

She shared details of goats in diapers, snake encounters, various birds of prey, and even a sloth and a ring-tailed lemur were mentioned as guests every summer! Gergley laughed when sharing that she regularly takes some of the animals home, including the diapered goats.

This year Apopka Animal Camp will be hosted at the Well Activity Center. The camp is for kids ages 5 - 12 years old, and will be in week-long sessions starting the week of June 6th-10th, June 13th-17th, June 20th-24th, and June 27th-July 1st.
