An Insight into the Negative Health Effects of Stress

Posted

Do you feel as though you are constantly stressed out? Maybe you feel as though you are having a hard time dealing with the stress you are under because you just can’t seem to catch a break and are concerned about how this could be impacting you. Either way, if this sounds like you then the first thing you need to do is learn to recognise the negative effects of stress, so you can take steps to combat it before it impacts your life too much.

Drinking more

If you find that you are drinking more than you should be then this is a major sign that you are under more stress than you should be. It may be that you need to try and find ways to lower the stress you are under so you can cut back on your drinking or that you need to take the time to monitor your alcohol consumption. If you suspect that you have a problem with alcohol consumption then it could be a good idea for you to look into alcohol rehab. When you do, you can then feel confident knowing that you are getting the help and support you need from start to finish.

More frequent colds

Another sign that stress is impacting your health is if you are getting more colds. You may find that you come down with coughs or colds more frequently than others, or that you come down with them way worse. When you are stressed, you may find that decreased immunity is a bit of an issue, so you need to make sure that you are keeping an eye on this if you have a very stressful job.

Sleep issues

There are many ways that stress can impact sleep. One of them would be sleep issues. Stress can make sleep come less easily overall and it can also lead to you experiencing wakefulness throughout the night too. Too much stress can easily rob you of sleep and it can make the sleep that you do get, way less restorative. If you want to do something about this then make sure that you are getting a full 8 hours every night and if you find that stress is waking you up, take the time to speak to someone about it. Your doctor may be able to help you here, so try and keep that in mind.

Anxiety

Although anxiety is a mental health issue, it does serve as a function for survival. If you are feeling anxious a lot of the time then you may find that you have too many stressors in your life. It may also indicate that you have a mental health condition. If you want to do something about this then make sure that you speak with someone about the worrying thoughts you have and also take the time to get things off your chest with your boss, if you believe that work is the main source of your problems. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier for you to get the help you need.
