Sala's Hawaiian Slurp Shack Now Open

Posted

If you see a faded sign at the side of the road that says 15 miles to the Slurp Shack, well, you are going the wrong way. Turn around and head towards 1803 East Semoran Blvd.

"Sala's Hawaiian Slurp Shack" is now open in Apopka, and waiting to make each and everyone of you a part of their "OHANA" (Hawaiian for family).

DSC_0038The Apopka Voice was told the Hawaiian shave ice and ice cream flavors are to die for. And the food choices will broaden your horizons to something new and exciting in Apopka.

J.R. Sala and his wife Atwinda have worked hard to make "Sala's Hawaiian Slurp Shack" a reality and they hope to be an integral part of the Apopka community for many years to come, and share the gift of the "Aloha Spirit"

Born and raised in Hawaii, JR is of Samoan descent and has been a part DSC_0026of the Polynesian entertainment community in Orlando since 1980, having performed in Disney's Polynesian Review, Sea World's Luau and Disney's Festival of the Lion King Show. He has also performed for our troops overseas, and audiences throughout the world.

He and his wife owned and operated an entertainment, catering, and event company, but always wanted to open something Hawaii-based, thus, the inception and creation of "Sala's Hawaiian Slurp Shack".

DSC_0061They specialize in the "Hawaiian Shave Ice." They start with our filtered block of ice, which is finely shaved to a perfect texture that is layered in special flavored juices. The "Hawaiian Way" is to have a scoop of ice cream on the bottom, and when the juices flow down into the ice cream, ... Well, it's HAWAIIAN HEAVEN!

The 3-day GRAND OPENING Ho'olaule'a (festival) will be held January 29, 30, and 31 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Polynesian entertainers will entertain with music and dances of the islands, as well as face painters and other performers throughout the 3 days.DSC_0017

This event will also be to help the "CARE FOUNDATION" in Apopka, who provide life services for rescued exotic animals. Donations will be greatly appreciated.

Join JR and Atwinda at the celebration.
