From the City of Apopka

The City of Apopka in partnership with Orange County Government and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) would like to announce an upcoming family-friendly event to spread awareness and help educate the community on the importance of recycling and bear carts.

The event will take place from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM on Saturday, January 26th, 2019 at the Rock Springs Plaza (Reference Point: Beef ‘O’ Brady’s, 1410 Rock Springs Rd, Apopka, FL 32712). This event is free and open to the public.

Staff from the City of Apopka and Orange County Government will be onsite and available with resources and information on the recycling and bear cart programs from each municipality. Bear carts will be available for purchase as well.

Both kids and adults can test their knowledge and learn more on recycling with “Spin the Wheel” for a chance to win a prize. The FWC will be providing a lesson on bears and what residents can do to protect them with the “Be a Bear” Program.

  1. I went outside to put some garbage in my garbage can, and I then noticed my new bear- resistant can had already been delivered to me. We were not at home this morning, so I didn’t know it had already been delivered to our home. I had ordered it this past Saturday at the bear event in the parking lot of Beef O’ Brady’s. It really is a nice can, and it even has a bear head molded in the can’s design on the top of it. I was not sure if you had to open it, before the trucks came around, or what, but the lady at the event said when the truck turns it upside down with the truck arm, it has a spring that will open it automatically. Okay, good…. That was a fast delivery, great job, City of Apopka!
