Posted

The American Cancer Society is seeking businesses and organizations to get involved in the Relay For Life movement by displaying purple-themed displays in storefronts or common areas, swapping out white light bulbs for purple ones, or selecting a day for everyone to wear purple at work or school from March 1st until April 16, day of the Relay For Life of Apopka. Purple is the signature color of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life program, which represents all cancers.

Relay for Life - LogoIf you would like to participate in the Display Challenge, this must include the events date, time and location. Please keep your display up until the day of the event. When your display is complete, email a picture of it to donnamamato@gmail.com to be eligible for the contest. Displays will be judged at the event on April 16th and the winners will receive a special trophy.

The Relay For Life program is a community event where teams and individuals set up campsites at a school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team has at least one participant on the track at all times. Cancer survivors and caregivers take a celebratory first lap to start each event. Four million people participated in more than 6,000 events worldwide last year. The money raised supports groundbreaking cancer research, education and prevention programs, and critical services for people facing cancer.

The Relay For Life of Apopka event will take place Saturday, April 16 starting from 12pm-10pm at Apopka High School. Our theme will be Relay Around the World, where teams and campsites select a country to decorate their site and fund raise according to their selection.

Non-participants of this contest can still become involved with our Relay event as a team, participant, event sponsor or as a guest the day of. If you’d like to become involved, please contact Fernando Carrasquillo, Community Manager for Relay For Life, at 407-581-2532 or at Fernando.carrasquillo@cancer.org. About the American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of nearly three million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society's efforts have contributed to a 22 percent decline in cancer death rates in the US during the past two decades, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. Thanks in part to our progress nearly 14.5 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year. We're determined to finish the fight against cancer. As the nation’s largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, we’re finding cures and ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more. For more information, to get help, or to join the fight, visit cancer.org or call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345.
