Orange County opens waiting list for Section 8 housing

The Orange County Housing and Community Development Division will begin a pre-application process online to establish a waiting list of applicants for assistance under the Section 8 Program.

The online application system will be active from August 29th at 9:00 a.m. until August 31st, at 11:59 p.m. After the pre-application process ends, the applications will go through a computerized lottery system and only those applicants selected in the lottery will be included in a waiting list of up to 850 participants.

WHAT IS THE HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER (HCV-SECTION 8) PROGRAM?

The Section 8 program is a rental assistance program for low-income families subsidized by the federal government. The amount of the monthly rental subsidy is based on the gross monthly household income of an applicant’s household. The Orange County Housing and Community Development Division will be accepting pre-applications to establish a waiting list of eligible applicants for assistance under the Section 8 Program.

HOW DO I APPLY?

You must complete a pre-application which will only be available online here.

Hand delivered or mail delivered pre-applications will not be accepted; only on-line pre-applications will be accepted. Applicants submitting more than one pre-application will be disqualified.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

If your gross household income (before deductions) is less than or equal to the amount indicated below for your household size, you're eligible to apply for assistance under this program.

WHERE CAN I APPLY?

If you do not have a personal computer, smartphone, or tablet with online service to complete the pre-application, you can go to the nearest Orange County area library or community center to complete the pre-application.
