The $1,000 Alice B. Miner Scholarship is presented each year by the Northwest Orange Republican Women, Federated (NORWF).

The scholarship is presented in the name of Alice B. Miner, well-known Apopka elementary school educator who was actively involved in the Apopka area community and who was a charter member of NORWF .

NORWF, president, Joyce Brocker, noted that this is the 11th year that NORWF has helped deserving young Republicans towards achieving their educational goals.

According to NORWF's education chairman, the award is not a need-based scholarship and it is open to college age students who are residents of Orange County. The applicant must be a registered Republican. For more information about the application and other guidelines that apply, go to the club's website.

The application can be downloaded from that site also.

Last year the scholarship was awarded to 2016 — Abigail Slagel. Previous winners of the scholarships are; Michelle Boughan, James Doyle, Kristen Peery, Audra Moore, Seth Heard, Sarah Musser, Danielle Hilson, Jonathan Till and Kelsey Anthony.

The deadline to apply is Monday, April 17th.
