Week 3 could be pivotal for Mustangs and Blue Darters

Posted

Friday Night Preview:

#4 (7A) Lakeland Dreadnaughts (2-0) at #4 (8A) Apopka Blue Darters (2-0)

Winter Park Cougars (2-0) at #1 Wekiva Mustangs (2-0)

The Apopka Blue Darters and Wekiva Mustangs are off to fast starts in their 2018 campaigns. Both teams opened with two straight wins and are in the Associated Press top 10 poll for Class 8A schools in Florida. Wekiva (2-0), coming off a 28-14 victory over Georgia state champion North Gwinnett, remains #1 in the poll. The Blue Darters (2-0), defeated state runnerup Bartram Trail 33-28 and held on to the #4 position.

But week three of their schedules could prove to be a pivotal game for both teams.

Wekiva (2-0) returns home to play Winter Park, a team that defeated the Mustangs 10-6 in the 2017 regular season before Wekiva avenged that loss with a 33-6 victory in the state playoffs. Winter Park is also 2-0 on the season but is not ranked in the top ten poll.

Apopka also looks to avenge a 2017 loss against the Lakeland Dreadnaughts, who defeated Apopka 42-35 last season. The Dreadnaughts are currently 2-0 in 2018 and ranked #4 in the state 7-A poll.

Kickoff is tonight at 7 pm for both games.
