Morgan: "We need spiritual food just as we need natural food"

America: Land that I love

By Pastor Darrell Morgan, D.D.

Have you ever wondered where our founding fathers got the idea of a nation of people who could govern themselves? The idea of a nation – of the people, by the people, and for the people - was not a new one.

One other nation had this type of government. That was the nation of Israel. When God brought the children of Israel out of Egypt, they had no king except God. God used Moses to deliver them from bondage and then He gave them the Law. Whenever anyone wanted to know what God said about any subject, they went to Moses (later they went to the synagogue to a priest) to find out what to do and how to conduct everything from business to family.

The idea of a self- governing people has produced the greatest nation in the history of the world. This is the reason why everyone (or most everyone) wants to come here. Has the idea worked? Yes, for over 200 years now. But our forefathers knew that self-government would only work for a righteous, moral people. It will not work for any other. It’s been said that America’s greatness is found in her churches.

In the last twenty-seven years I have had the honor and privilege to pastor the Word of Life Church here in Apopka. The city of Apopka is a great place to grow up, raise a family and grow a business. We have good schools, good people and even a really good baseball team!

Having been asked to serve as President of the Apopka Christian Ministerial Alliance, I will start in this position on January 1, 2017. Pastor Hezekiah Bradford who is currently (and will remain) the President of the South Apopka Ministerial Alliance is handing these reins over to me. Pastor Doug Bankson of Victory Church is the founder of the alliance and all of the participating pastors have done a great job of coming together to build an organization of ministers of different denominations and ethnic backgrounds.

The Apopka Voice has asked us as pastors to write articles on a weekly basis. Just like Israel went to the synagogue to hear the Word of God, so we as citizens of this great nation recognize that we need spiritual food, just as we need natural food. Our desire as pastors and ministers is to strengthen our community by bringing to you what the Word of God has to say about current events. Each week you will hear from a different minister from churches throughout our city. And not only is our goal to bring the Word of God to you, but to also serve you by being an example.

As your pastors, and being from different denominations and cultures, we do not always agree with each other, but we have decided to lay our differences aside for the greater cause. Jesus said that the world would know us by our love for one another. So, we have reached across the aisle to work together to bring America back to God and to make Apopka an awesome place to live.

Please join with us by reaching out to your neighbors and let’s make Apopka the greatest city to live in!
