For second straight week, Journey Christian Church cancels Sunday services due to COVID-19 outbreak

For the second straight week, the Journey Christian Church has canceled its Sunday services at both its Apopka and Lake County campuses due to an outbreak of COVID-19 among its staff, volunteers, and families according to a statement posted on its Facebook page and youtube channel.

Journey Lead Pastor John Hampton spoke on the urgency of the issue in the five-minute video, alongside Associate lead Pastor Dustin Aagaard.

"This is a crisis-oriented time as we've learned more and more of our people... particularly staff members, particularly volunteers and their families have tested positive for COVID," Hampton said. "They tested positive and are sick... many of them are severely ill and some have been hospitalized. Pray for the many brothers and sisters that we love and serve with... that they would recover fully and prevent this from going any further than our Journey family."

According to Hampton and Aagaard, there were 17 positive cases last week, but that number increased to 40 positive cases this week.

"The wisest course of action is to not meet right now," said Hampton. "We are just making sure we are acting wisely. We love Journey, and we don't want to see any more people get sick as a result of coming here to a gathering of some sort. This is serious. Florida is a hotspot. Cases have gone up greatly - over 30% in Orange County from last week... so there's a lot of people we just need to be very careful about."
