What is Safety Check?

Safety Check allows people to quickly share that they're safe with friends and family and helps them connect with people they care about. During a disaster, Safety Check will help you:

• Let friends and family know you're safe
• Check on friends and family in the affected area and connect with them
• Share what you know about a friend or family member's status

To determine if you're in the affected area Facebook looks at a number of factors, including:

• The city you have listed in your profile
• Your current location, if you've given Facebook access to your phone or tablet's location
• Other signals that point to your location (ex: the city where you use the Internet)

Note: Once you're marked safe, only your friends will see your status, as well as any comments posted on your status.
