The Apopka Police Department provided details today about the shooting of Dexter Hughley. According to APD:
The man arrested by APD, DeMarquis Prince had recently been fired by Hughley from Wendy's for not showing up to work.
On November 2nd, Prince broke into Hughley's apartment, shot him three times and then stole the day's cash deposit from the restaurant out of Hughley's car.
Hughley told APD he came home from work to change clothes when he saw Prince, who was apparently waiting for him. Prince shot Hughley twice, causing him to fall. Prince then shot him a third time.
Police found Hughley's burned-out Chevrolet Camaro at 5th Street and Hawthorne Avenue about 10:00 PM on November 2nd. APD ran a license-plate check and learned that Hughley was the owner of the Camaro.
One of the officers knew Hughley and went to Wendy's where they learned that Hughley lived in Orange North Apartments. APD went to Hughley apartment where they found Hughley on the floor bleeding profusely in the hallway of the apartment.
Hughley picked out Prince's photo from a lineup at the hospital on November 14 when his condition improved enough for him to talk.
Prince was arrested Friday on charges of attempted first-degree murder, burglary, home invasion and carjacking.
