The State of Florida's Constitutional provision to carry a concealed weapon is found in Article 1 Section 8. Carry or CCW (carrying a concealed weapon), refers to the practice of carrying a handgun or other weapon in public in a concealed manner, either on one’s person or in close proximity. Not all weapons that fall under CCW controls are lethal. Did you know that pepper spray having more than a specified volume of volatile material requires a CCW permit in Florida? Whereas anyone can carry a smaller volume pepper spray device hidden on their person without a CCW permit in Florida.

Southern Safety Services uses the NRA training method of Total Participant Involvement, basic courses provide hands on learning opportunities for Concealed Weapons students in the following areas:

  • Safe firearm handling
  • Firearm parts and operation
  • Ammunition and its function
  • Shooting fundamentals and an opportunity to develop them on the range
  • How to select, clean and store a firearm
  • Review of various activities available to help participants develop and improve their shooting skills
  • Florida laws and regulations concerning carrying a concealed weapon for personal protection
  • Information on specialty classes designed to teach children about firearm safety as well as a variety of other classes (sport shooting, home invasion, etc.)

Section 790.06 (1), Florida Statutes, defines concealed weapons or firearms as those carried in a manner that conceals them from the ordinary sight of another person. This includes:

In addition to the above information participants who complete the training will also receive a State of Florida Application Packet, all class materials and an attractive certificate stating successful completion of the course which is necessary to receive your Florida Concealed Weapons Permit.

You don't have to know how to fire a gun to take this class. All levels are welcome. Recently, a group of 20 - 25 people from Victory Church attended Southern Safety Services Inc. Concealed Weapons training. They learned about different types of guns as well as how to handle and fire them. Michelle Bankson, Member Relations Director of The Apopka Chamber of Commerce was impressed with the class.

"Hollis Kendall did a superb job on teaching the class and is very thorough in going over every inch and detail on the importance of gun safety," she said. "If you are interested in protecting your home, family and valuables take the concealed weapons class. This is a great class for women and men but I suggest all those who are new to guns to take this class because you won’t be disappointed."
