By Bryan Nelson, Orange County Commissioner District 2
A part of building a sustainable future for our community is cleaning up the messes we have already
made. Litter is often the causes of environmental damage and a source of hazard for residents. So, on
Saturday April 29th Orange County District 2 is holding this month’s second community cleanup! From 8
a.m. to 12 p.m. our District 2 community is coming together to help clean the neighborhoods of
Zellwood and Plymouth.
The cleanup is going to focus on removing litter along the right a-ways and streets in both Zellwood and
Plymouth. We will clean 297 parcels in Plymouth which include 245 residential parcels in 4 subdivisions,
14 manufactured homes, 37 vacant residential parcels and a cemetery. In Zellwood we will clean 245
residential parcels in 7 local subdivisions. To assist with transporting our volunteers between cleanup
locations code enforcement officers will be bring three Parks and Recreation vans to the event.
Solid Waste and Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) are also coming out to help dispose of hazardous
materials such as electronics, pesticides, cleaning fluids and antifreeze batteries! Seniors over 65 and
registered recipients of disability benefits can have HHW pick up hazardous waste directly from their
home. To schedule a HHW pick-up please call 407-836- 1660 by 5 p.m. on April 27th. All other Orange
County residents can drop off their HHW year-round at the Orange County Landfill and the McLeod
Transfer Station. Towards the end of our cleanup we will host a Luncheon Celebration held for all our
participants. At the celebration volunteers will be able sit back and relax after dedicating their morning
to servicing the community! A few local businesses have generously donated food and refreshments for
everyone to enjoy!
Residents interested participating in the cleanup should meet at the Willow Street Community Center
located at 6565 Willow St. Zellwood FL, 32798 at 8:00 a.m. Our staff will be there to help direct and
distribute volunteers’ yard gloves, trash bags, Niffy-Nabbers, and refreshments. The street clean-up will
take place until 11:00 a.m. when everyone will regroup at the Community Center for the Luncheon
Celebration! We recommend volunteers show up in comfortable clothing and sneakers.
This cleanup was made possible by all of our sponsors.
