Embrace Families: New name reflects the mission to protect children and strengthen families

2019 means a new identity for Community Based Care of Central Florida (CBCCF). The nonprofit organization recently changed its name to Embrace Families.

Since 2004, Community Based Care of Central Florida has served as the region’s lead agency overseeing foster care, adoption and other child welfare services in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. With the new identity, the organization hopes to reinforce its mission of ensuring safety, providing permanency and looking after the well-being of children suffering from, or at risk of, abuse or neglect. The name also incorporates the organization’s efforts to reach families facing high-stress conditions, such as homelessness and mental health issues, and provide support through counseling, housing programs, and other assistance.

“We wanted a name that speaks to the heart of how we embrace families and provide them support as they overcome difficult situations,” said Glen Cassel, president, and CEO of Embrace Families. “As a community, we all have a role in caring for vulnerable children. Our goal is to provide a stable path allowing them to flourish and thrive.”

There are many opportunities for the community to get involved and help shape a young person’s life, such as:

Becoming a licensed foster family

Mentoring a child in foster care

Adopting a child

The transition to Embrace Families also coincides with reaccreditation from Florida’s Department of Children and Families, a process that happens every five years. This certification allows Embrace Families to maintain its role as a lead agency.
