Commissioner Nelson Congratulates District 2 Citizen of the Year

Commissioner Bryan Nelson congratulates the District 2 Citizen of the Year, Debbie Turner, for promoting good citizenship, passion, selflessness, integrity, respect, and love which bonds our community together. Turner founded the Debbie Turner Cancer Care and Research Center in 2007. By working with the American Cancer Society she has been able to lobby in Tallahassee and Washington D.C. for Cancer legislation and funding as well as for Cancer related research.

Her organization provides full makeovers, educational services, transportation, and counseling services. There is ongoing support available at the Center for not only the victims of cancer but also their family, friends and even their pets. This type of support was not available until she started her organization.

In the past, Turner was a retired teacher in Orange County Public Schools and worked with students of special needs and their families. Now in her current position, she is able to be a role model for all that meet her and lead others in the direction of creating services for Cancer victims and their families.

Additionally, she is a volunteer and counselor for First United Methodist Church of Apopka. She exemplifies leadership by living her life as not only a good steward, but in sacrifice to help and serve others.
